our time together on this earth is fleeting and I fear that we may all too soon be parting so brother, take my hand take this oath, I must demand: say you won't forget me when I'm gone when I'm gone, when I'm gone please don't forget me when I'm gone the almighty creator is an almighty taker he holdeth both the dark and the light together and don't I know one day he'll whisk us both away so sister let me hear you say you won't forget me when I'm gone, when I'm gone please don't forget me when I'm gone when I'm destitute, incontinent, sucking on eggs when I'm clutching at straws, when I'm on my last legs and when I'm gone, when I'm gone please don't forget me when I'm gone

Dust 03:18
one day (one day) we'll blow away return to the dust from whence we first came and our great-grandchildren won't know our names the future may be cruel or the future may be kind don't it make you tremble inside? you and me, we just might be two of the tiniest people the universe has ever seen but when we're overcome with joy we laugh into the void and hear the echoes echo back, echo back, echo back one day (one day) we'll disappear along with all the things we once held dear we've nothing to lose and so nothing to fear because the future may be cruel of the future may be kind don't it make you tremble inside ...the future may be cruel but then the future may be kind don't you wanna give it a try? 'cause you and me, we just might be two pindrops resounding in eternity but if the emptiness overlooks us then maybe the good lord will take us so let's pray that the good lord takes us let's pray that the good lord takes us let's pray that the good lord takes us let's pray that the good lord takes us

here a fire came to be born here a fire came to die here a fire came to be born here a fire came to die smoke billows, billows, billows and fills the sky smoke billows, billows, billows and fills my eyes smoke billows, billows, billows and fills the sky smoke billows, billows, billows and fills my eyes smoke billows, fog thickens, wind whispers, winter listens

Mirror 04:23
when I look into the mirror all I see is just a shimmer as clouds gather again over the city to conceal me frailty holds me tight in an embrace I simply cannot fight winter wears us well, it wears us well this morning in December but when February comes it will have worn us out my eyes are grey, the skies are grey, the ground is torn asunder our dear little island will soon be underwater time has worn us well, it's worn us well within our youth but as we carry on, time will only tell the truth so you can take my hand, let us walk it off together and by the time our time is through we'll both be feeling better when the scenery's as still as in a picture that's been painted listen for the perfect moment when the music is untainted and darling, take my hand

about

Dust is my collection of festive fireside sketches for 2014, written while on tour in China towards the end of summer. 'Dust' refers to simplicity and to fragility, a dusting of snow, the dust of the woodshed (or the stable, if you prefer...)

The EP examines mortality and human limitations. I wanted the songs to feel as simple and as bare as I could muster. I wanted you to be able to hear the raw imperfections in my singing and playing, because these embody the fragility about which I'm writing.

As always, my fireside sketches are meant for you to be able to close your eyes and imagine that my feathered friends and I have set up around you and started busking in that late-night, mid-winter style. I hope you enjoy the experience.

With love,
RM x
